May 2014 our lives were changed when Pat was diagnosed by Mr Tom Murphy with Oesophageal cancer. Pat underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and in September had an oesophagectomy (essentially had his oesophagus removed). As a thank you to Mr. Murphy, his team and the staff at the Mercy Hospital I have decided to run 12 marathons in 8 months starting in March and finishing in October.
All funds raised will be donated to Mr Tom Murphy who requires funding to start a multicenter study exploring the role of bacteria in the development of barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal cancer.
Brenda what an inspiration you are to all of us.. I am in awe of the amazing task you have set yourself. I am looking forward to following your progress and will be cheering you along as you cross each one of the calendar..
